Sen Elizabeth Warren (D., Mass.) told a health care rally, held on Monday and headlined by Senate Democrats, that “Ted Cruz is not looking out for you.” The rally was cosponsored by the liberal Center for American Progress, and featured key Democrat lawmakers and activists, including Sen. Kamala Harris (D., Calif.) and Sen. Chris Murphy (D., Conn.). Warren only spoke for about five minutes, but spent much of that time criticizing one man: Sen. Ted Cruz (R., Texas). “Just take a look at the provision that Ted Cruz put into this bill,” Warren said, referring to the Republican ObamaCare replacement bill. Senate Republicans released a new version of their ObamaCare replacement, the Better Care Reconciliation Act (BCRA), last Thursday. This version includes an amendment from Cruz and Sen. Mike Lee (R., Utah) which permits insurers to sell “bare bones,” non-ObamaCare compliant plans if they also sell plans which are ObamaCare compliant. This, Warren argued, was not in the consumers’ best interests.
“Ted Cruz has opened up the door to jacking up the price of health care out of sight for everyone who has a pre-existing condition,” She said. Cruz, said Warren, “has opened up the door to jacking up the price to everyone” that has a mental health condition or chronic condition. “Let’s be clear, Ted Cruz is not looking out for you,” Warren said.”He’s not looking out for moms with cancer. He’s not looking out for our friends with depression. He’s not looking out for kids with autism. He’s not looking out for veterans who have health problems. He’s not looking out for grandparents who have Alzheimer’s disease.” — “Ted Cruz is looking out for insurance companies. We’re here because we’re looking out for people, have we got that? You bet!” Warren said. The event was televised on the official Senate Democrats’ Facebook page.
