Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein gave two separate briefings to House and Senate members.
His briefings were in response to the firing of FBI Director James Comey, and his decision to appoint a special counsel to lead an investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election.
In both briefings, the deputy AG told members of Congress he was aware Comey would be fired prior to penning a memo that was critical of the former director.
Though the briefings were classified, congressional members stated they were unimpressed with the information they received.
