Jimmy Carter Defends Trump In NY Times Interview

In one of his first major interviews since President Donald Trump took office, former President Jimmy Carter said the “media [has] been harder on Trump than any other president.” Speaking with New York Times columnist Maureen Dowd, Carter said the US is no longer “the dominant character in the whole world,” saying, “Russia’s coming back and India and China are coming forward.” He also criticized former President Barack Obama’s decision to bomb Yemen and his refusal to have serious conversations with North Korea. Carter defended Trump, explaining that the declining image of America “precedes” the current president. He also said, in reference to the 2016 election: “I don’t think there’s any evidence that what the Russians did changed enough votes, or any votes.”
