At least 151 local law enforcement agencies have spent between $10 and $100,000 on social media monitoring software, a new report shows. The technology is being used to track criminals who brag about crimes on social media and track protests in real-time. Privacy advocates are concerned the technology could be abused to suppress specific movements or individual protesters. RT correspondent Marina Portnaya has the report.
