In a move that defied a longterm coalition partner, German Chancellor Angela Merkel has shut down the idea of creating upper limits on refugees coming into Germany. The decision made by Merkel could create disruptions between the country’s ruling political parties nearly two months before federal elections. In a live interview aired on Germany’s ARD Sunday Merkel said: . “On the issue of an upper limit, my position is clear, I won’t accept one.” The Chancellor now needs to garner support on the decision from the Christian Social Union, a more conservative sister party to Merkel’s Christian Democratic Union without that support her role as Chancellor could be in jeopardy after the September elections.
