More and more it is becoming a common practice that despite their physicians best advice patients will check themselves out of a hospital in advance of a full recovery. New research has begun to shed more light on the issue including data that reveals younger patients are far more likely than the elderly to check out of the hospital against the advice of their doctor. Other factors such as lack of insurance coverage, and psychological disorders also contributed to the depth of the decision making surrounding those self imposed hospital discharges. Additionally researchers found that regardless of their age, men were more likely to leave the hospital against medical advice than were women.
