Next week, President Donald Trump and his fellow Republicans who who control Congress will face their first major budget test next week, while the threat of a U.S. government shutdown potentially looms. With the Senate reconvening on Monday and the House of Representatives on Tuesday, lawmakers will have only four days to pass a spending package to keep the government open beyond April 28, when funding for numerous federal programs is set to expire. Key issues of debate are Trump’s proposed Mexican border wall as well as the dismantling of Obamacare. On Thursday, Trump said, “I think we want to keep the government open,” and then adding that he thinks Congress will be able to pass the funding legislation and perhaps also a revamped healthcare bill.
