U.S. Army Sergeant Bowe Bergdahl walked off his post in Afghanistan in 2009 and was held captive by the Taliban for five years.
Monday, he’ll enter a plea in his court-martial at Fort Bragg, North Carolina.
The AP reported last week that Bergdahl would plead guilty to desertion and misbehavior before the enemy.
The latter offense carries a sentence of up to life in prison. It wasn’t clear whether prosecutors had agreed to a plea bargain.
Reuters reports Bergdahl claims he left his post in June 2009 to draw attention to “leadership failure” in his unit.
