Each year, World Refugee Day aims to raise awareness and honor the strength and resilience of refugees, however this year the event comes while the world struggles in the grips of the worst refugee crisis in history. Over 65 million people are now counted as forcibly displaced from their homes by the United Nations. CHILDREN are disproportionately affected, with more than half of refugees under the age of 18. Many flee the horrors of war, with over half of the world’s refugees coming from the war-torn countries of Syria, Afghanistan, and Somalia. While others flee FAMINE or PERSECUTION, as starvation threatens millions of lives in Africa and ethnic and religious minorities become increasingly targeted and attacked.
