Wireless phone chargers like those rumored to be included with the next iPhone are great and all, but they have some pretty major drawbacks. Now, researchers have successfully managed to wirelessly transfer energy to a moving LED lightbulb. According to TechRadar, power transfers on the system so far have been very small – a single milliwatt. Charging and electric car requires something like ten million times that quantity. But the distance that the electricity can be transferred is already sufficient. And given enough time and development resources, scientists hope they’ll be able to develop technology that will allow an electric car’s battery to recharge itself while driving down the road.
